ARTIST STATEMENT: The simple joys of life… like a robin’s nest chosen to be built in the backyard… it provides entertainment, something to look forward to, excitement, and perspective. It’s the story of life unfolding daily that’s not so unlike our own… The hardworking parents constructing a home for their future babies, committed in sitting with and protecting those eggs as they grow, watching with some confusion and anxiety as the eggs hatch and the vulnerable little bodies emerge, then tirelessly flitting about trying to keep up with the endless demands for food. And in a matter of days, those babies grow and change before your very eyes. Bigger. Stronger. Louder. Hungrier. Braver. It happens so quickly, and before you know it, off they go, leaping from the nest, eager to live their lives in the great big world. It’s a bittersweet day with the empty nest. “Wasn’t it just the other day they hatched and were tiny little babies? How can they be gone so soon?” These moments go by quickly, but the memories are some of the best.
