Abstract rainbow wood and steel sculpture. A textured, upright box elder wood slab painted with blocks of color suspended by a metal pole on a black cube of spruce log wood.
The wood was carved with chainsaw and power tools by artist Michelle Thevenot in Saskatchewan, Canada. The base was charred with a propane torch to create a black color and enhance the texture before sealer was applied.
The abstract and conceptual sculpture embraces the natural characteristics and cracks in the wood as an authentic co-creation between artist and nature.
Artist Statement: LOOK CLOSELY. I am a tangle of colors, interrupted by distracting lines. Chaos. Attention zips randomly across multiple disjointed elements. I am disorderly. I merge into a matrix of intensity. Attention is spliced and spread across the entire space, everything separated, yet connected... vivid in focus, while the edges fade away into fractured, jagged darkness. I am social resistance.
For indoor/outdoor display.
